What is IPTV?

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) delivers live channels and on‑demand video over your network instead of traditional cable or satellite. The player app (or set‑top box) connects to a provider using a simple M3U playlist or an Xtream Codes portal, then streams content to your TV over Ethernet or Wi‑Fi.

Hi‑Speed integrates the delivery path—Wi‑Fi, switching, QoS, and control—so your streams remain smooth. Clients provide their own content sources/subscriptions.

Recommended devices

We support a range of players and control options—pick what fits your cabin layout and remotes.

Android / Google TV Boxes

Versatile, great app support. Can run IPTV apps (M3U, Xtream). Integrates well with URC for control.

  • Solid Wi‑Fi/Ethernet
  • Good ABR behavior
  • CEC control to TV

MAG 540 / 555

Dedicated set‑top boxes with portal support. Stable and easy to manage remotely.

  • Xtream Codes portal support
  • Wired Ethernet preferred
  • Works with URC IR/IP

Control Systems (URC)

One‑touch scenes, input switching, and volume across zones with custom macros.

  • Room‑by‑room profiles
  • Quick quality/resolution presets
  • Boat/shore power modes

Bandwidth & ABR cheat sheet

Typical steady‑state bitrate targets per stream. Starlink can fluctuate—design for margin.

Quality Per‑stream bitrate Suggested cap Notes
SD (480p)1–2 Mbps3 MbpsMost resilient offshore
HD (720p)3–5 Mbps6 MbpsGood balance on variable links
Full HD (1080p)6–10 Mbps10–12 MbpsUse when link quality is stable
4K (2160p)15–25 Mbps25–30 MbpsDockside or marina Wi‑Fi only

Tip: budget extra headroom for other devices and overhead (×1.3 multiplier per stream is a safe starting point).

QoS & VLAN checklist (UDM‑Pro)

  • Create IPTV VLAN for players; assign wired ports to that VLAN.
  • Enable Smart Queues (or Traffic Management) and set priority rules for IPTV.
  • Separate Guest SSID/VLAN; rate‑limit to preserve headroom.
  • Prefer wired Ethernet for players; reserve Wi‑Fi for control and tablets.
  • Optional: Dual‑WAN with LTE failover at reduced caps.
